I grew up in a home decorated with stenciling, pineapples, and Colonial furnishings, where copies of Country Living came in the mailbox and my mom could be found cross-stitching or sewing while working on her latest project. It was a lovely place in which to grow up, but it's not a decorating style that I've emulated in my own homes (sorry, Mom). So imagine my surprise to find, while working on a story for Washington Post's Express, that country decor is having something of a comeback. It's got a more modern spin but also a broader appeal. So maybe I will wind up following in my mom's footsteps after all.
